MUSCAT: SalamAir will launch its first direct flights between Muscat and Kigali on Tuesday, expanding its African network and strengthening air links between the Sultanate of Oman and Rwanda as the low-cost carrier continues to broaden its international footprint.
The airline will operate two flights a week on the new route, offering passengers direct access to Kigali while providing onward connections through SalamAir's growing network across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
A ceremony marking the launch was held at Muscat International Airport on Monday, attended by officials from SalamAir, Oman Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Rwandan Embassy in Oman, and representatives from the aviation and tourism sectors.
Adrian Hamilton-Manns, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, said the new service marked another milestone in the airline's expansion strategy.
"The launch of direct flights to Kigali represents an important step in our continued expansion into promising markets that support tourism, business and international connectivity," he said. "Rwanda is a dynamic destination offering significant opportunities, and this route will strengthen relations between the two countries while supporting Oman's tourism ambitions under Oman Vision 2040."
Kigali is regarded as one of East Africa's fastest-growing business and tourism hubs, and the new route is expected to facilitate trade, investment and cultural exchanges between Oman and Rwanda.
Lieutenant General Dan Munyoza, Rwanda's Ambassador to Oman, said the direct service would strengthen the movement of passengers, businesses and goods while creating new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
"This route represents a significant milestone in strengthening connectivity between Rwanda and Oman and will contribute to deeper cooperation in tourism, trade and investment," he said.
Nasser bin Ahmed al Sharji, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, said each new international destination enhances Muscat International Airport's role as a regional gateway.
"Every new destination contributes to developing air connectivity, supporting tourism and trade, and opening new opportunities in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040," he said. — ONA
